Job Description
The Solution Architect will provide selling capabilities, technical expertise, and project management skills to prospective accounts during pre-sales and post-sales phases of their development.
Responsibilities will include:
- An assessment of Terracotta product fit to the customer's architecture and needs,
- Managing relations with software architects, developers, operational personnel and technology leadership (CTO, CIO, Directors etc.) within prospect organizations,
- Providing assistance to prospects with installation, integration and tuning of the integrated-solution.
- Leading the completion of technical questions on RFPs and ensuring that the technology is positioned well within the consuming organization.
- Providing feedback on product features and priorities to the product management and core-engineering team.
- Active engagement on post-sale accounts to help them get to deployment
- Building integrations based on core-Terracotta technology to popular Open Source Frameworks and blogging about them
- Troubleshooting performance, scale, stability issues for integrated solutions.
Requirements for the Solution Architect position:
- Education:
o A bachelor's degree is required - with a major in Computer Science or another technical discipline such as Engineering strongly preferred.
- Experience:
o Minimum 3-5 years experience.
o The role will demand a well-rounded individual with an impressive technical foundation as well as a proven history of successful interaction with customers in a selling context. Yet, deep knowledge of Java development and Java middleware technologies will be weighted more heavily than selling experience in the hiring decision since the Solution Architect needs to be able to operate independently within customers' IT environments.
o Selected candidates should expect a thorough technical interview that will not only examine distributed computing knowledge, but overall technical reasoning capability.
- Technical Skill:
o Expertise with architecting, designing, developing and deploying Java (J2EE and J2SE) based solutions.
o Extensive experience in enterprise application deployment architectures, environments and concerns (scalability, performance, availability, reliability, security etc.)
o Strong knowledge of modern Java-related frameworks è O/R mapping, Spring, AOP to name a few.
o Working knowledge of Database architectures, SQL and ability to interpret ERDs and other relational specifications
o Installation, configuration, and management of commercial and open-source Java application servers such as BEA-WebLogic, IBM-Websphere, Tomcat, Resin, Jetty, JBoss, Glassfish etc.
o Basic scripting skills and knowledge of benchmarks, standards.
o Solaris and/or Linux Administration, knowledge of the Networking tier is a plus.
- Other Skills:
o Accountability and a strong customer service ethos are essential prerequisites for this critical role. An ability to achieve results while operating independently with minimal guidance is a must.
o Travel will be required 25-40% of the time depending on prospect activity.
o Good handle on selling approaches and presentation of new technical concepts effectively to core Engineers and Engineering Management alike.
o Ability to connect use of a technology to customer economic benefit.
o Excellent written and oral communications with good presentation skills.
