Getting Started with Terracotta

BRING ORDER TO UNRULY APPLICATIONS

Terracotta can help you tame those existing applications that present scalability and performance challenges - with no need to change the application itself.

In cases where you need a highly-available (HA) application, but you hit some hard tradeoffs with scalability and performance, Terracotta gives you a way to reduce or eliminate these tradeoffs, and have an application that is HA, with good performance and scalability - all at once. Plus, with Terracotta you can get all these benefits without changing your application code. There is no API to add to your application to use Terracotta, just a configuration file that tells Terracotta which data in your application should be shared to make it HA.

HOW CAN TERRACOTTA DO THIS WITHOUT ANY CHANGE TO THE APPLICATION?

Terracotta hooks right into the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) to add enterprise capabilities to Java applications that might lack them, capabilities like high availability and scalability. Terracotta is a new class of infrastructure that gives you the best of stateful and stateless architectures in a single infrastructure service. With Terracotta you get a stateful programming model with a stateless operating model - the best of both worlds, with no need to re-architect your application to get the operational qualities you need.
