TERRACOTTA 2.5 ADDS SUPPORT FOR MAVEN AND GERONIMO

December 11, 2007

Developers in open source community rally behind Terracotta and contribute to new features

San Francisco—December 11, 2007—Terracotta, a leader in infrastructure software for enterprise Java high availability and scalability, today announced the release of Terracotta 2.5, which includes support for the Apache Geronimo application server and Apache Maven build manager. Developers who are part of the Geronimo open source community played a key role in developing the new product, joining the Jetty and Liferay open source communities that have contributed to previous versions of Terracotta.

With the release of Terracotta 2.5, Terracotta strengthens its growing popularity as the best-practice approach to clustering Java applications of various types.

"Open source developers are rallying behind Terracotta for the same reason so many businesses are choosing Terracotta - our approach to Java clustering is the simplest way to high availability and scalability," said Ari Zilka, Terracotta's chief technical officer. "Terracotta 2.5's new features make it even easier to use."

Jeff Genender, member of the Apache Geronimo Project Management Committee (PMC), played an important role in providing plug-in support for Geronimo in Terracotta 2.5. Users can enable Terracotta clustering in their Geronimo-based projects with one click.

"Terracotta is a perfect way to provide enterprise-class transparent clustering for Geronimo," said Genender. "With this plug-in, users are able to click/install Terracotta on Geronimo and have the server clustered in an instant – thus making clustering in Geronimo a cinch."

Terracotta 2.5 also supports the Apache Maven build manager, making it easier to build Terracotta Integration Modules, which are plug-in integrations for all types of applications, containers and framework libraries. Terracotta's Maven support allows projects to integrate Terracotta seamlessly into their automated build and test process. Apache Maven and Apache Geronimo are products/projects of The Apache Software Foundation.

Terracotta 2.5 also includes a new Lock Analyzer feature that enables developers to retrieve cluster-wide statistics about locks including the average lock-time held, average wait time to acquire, average size of the wait queue and lock-hop count. The Lock Analyzer allows operators to identify and fix performance hot spots, providing detailed statistics at every level of the stack frames and at each cluster node.

Other features included in Terracotta 2.5 are a starter kit for Terracotta Integration Modules and a new Distributed Cache Sample Application that helps users more quickly deploy and test Terracotta for this popular use case.

Along with the release of Terracotta 2.5, Terracotta is announcing the JBoss TreeCache replacement project, the first created by the Terracotta Forge Labs, a sandbox for informal Terracotta-related projects. The JBoss TreeCache replacement project gives developers the same capabilities as JBoss TreeCache but with higher performance. It is now available in the Terracotta Forge.
